Help Tommy and His Wife Rebuild Their Lives

In a school there are many unsung heroes, and many are essential to the day to day operations of a building holding 2000 people. Among those are our custodial staff who work long hours at a sometimes seemingly thankless job. We have an unsung hero among us who finds himself in need of assistance due to unfortunate circumstances. A community is built from helping our fellow man; and this community is a strong one. Let me tell you about Tommy Stokes.

Tommy is always here at Pope High School at the crack of dawn, ensuring the building is in working order before over a hundred teachers arrive and then the thousands of students. He takes pride in making Pope a beautiful and clean place to learn and work.

But recently both Tommy and his wife have dealt with multiple serious medical conditions and in turn they have found themselves facing a great deal of medical expenses. They were forced to sell their house—their refuge—in a matter of 3 days and were only allowed 24 hours to vacate the property. Can you imagine having to leave over 90% of your belongings and moving into a hotel? It is stressful in the best of times, but at this moment it is unthinkable. Human beings should have rest and recuperation time in comfort. They are currently working on getting into an apartment.

No kitchen supplies. No kitchen. Restaurants are expensive and having to resupply two adults for life is a daunting and costly task. Anyone would be overwhelmed and dismayed.

Please consider giving what you can. Times are tough for all of us, but if you have a home to go to, you are indeed blessed. That $20 may have been your takeout for the evening, but it will mean the world for two hardworking people to be able to get back on their feet. Asking for help is never easy for people who have stood on their own their entire lives, but lets show the Stokes that we care and appreciate their presence in our lives. Let’s help together.
