Help Tonna Fight Like a Girl

Donation protected
Tonna is a friend and co-worker of mine who is going through the unthinkable.  As if being diagnosed with stage I breast cancer at the young age of 33 wasn't enough,  she has recently been diagnosed with recurrent breast cancer that has unfortunately spread to her lymph nodes, lungs and thryoid.

In August of 2013, Tonna was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer.  At this time, her kids were 3 years old and 17 years old.  Two weeks after her diagnosis at the young age of 33, Tonna underwent a double mastectomy.  The pathology came back as triple negative and tested positive for the BRCA 1 mutation.  Luckily, she did not have to undergo chemotherapy or radiation as there was no lymph node involvement.  After continuing her follow ups, in September 2013 she was told she was CANCER FREE!  Over the course of the next 4 years she underwent more follow ups and three reconstruction surgeries.

Now fast forward to November 2017.  Tonna went to an urgent care after being sick and was treated with antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection.  Upon completing her antibiotics she felt better, but her cough persisted.  In December 2017, she had onset of pain to her shoulder, back and down her arm.   With the medical knowledge she has as surgical technician, she retruned to the doctor in fears that she had pneumonia.  A chest xray was performed and the current whirlwind begins.

The chest xray that Tonna had in December showed multiple nodules in her lungs.  A CT scan of her chest was ordered which unfortunately revealed involved lymph nodes in the axilla (armpits) and chest.  She then underwent a multitude of other tests and procedures including a lymph node biopsy, a CT scan of her abdomen and pelvis, a bone scan and an MRI of her brain.  Luckily the CT of her abdomen and pelvis did not show any nodules, the bone scan did not suggest any bone involvement and the MRI showed no lesions her brain.  Unfortunately, the lymph node confirmed her fears,  her breast cancer has returned.  Her oncologist has told her that she has stage four breast cancer and that there is no cure.  They are currently looking into clinical trials/studies for her to get involved in.    She will start chemo but can not do so until she finds out if she gets into a trial because starting chemotherapy before acceptance could disqualify her.

I am starting this go fund me page in hopes to raise any amount of money to help Tonna with.... life.   She is an amazing person who has been through too much in her 38 years of life. She is a fighter and has beat Cancer once, and I know she will prevail again.   Between medical bills,  being a single mom and raising two children and a grandbaby and all of the expenses that will pile up while she is taking time off of work for appointments and treatments,  Tonna could really use our support.    Any donation would be greatly appreciated.  Shares and prayers are appreciated just as much.
