Help Tony Maniscalco Through a Heart Transplant!

My name is JoAnna Maniscalco, and I am Tony’s older sister. Tony is 32 years old and is one of the most loving, caring, and compassionate people I know, spending free time on community work to help people and animals in need. In early-June, Tony became short of breath when walking to the gym a few blocks from home. It didn’t seem like a big deal at the time, and Tony walked it off like many of us would. Two weeks later, Tony walked into the emergency room and has been hospitalized ever since.
After a seemingly endless battery of tests, invasive surgeries, and failed attempts to salvage the heart, the unavoidable conclusion is that Tony must have a heart transplant to survive. Tony is currently on life support at Tufts Medical Center in downtown Boston where they’ll remain until Tony gets on the transplant list and a transplant becomes available. This will likely take months!
I’m starting this GoFundMe page to raise money to help pay for Tony’s medical expenses, other ongoing expenses related to Tony’s recovery, as well as to help Tony’s family members cover travel and lodging expenses when visiting Tony.
Over the past month and a half, family members have flown in from across the country to spend time with Tony, advocate for and help with Tony’s care, and make important medical decisions when required. The largest financial impact has fallen on Tony’s mother, who arrived from Florida within a day of Tony’s hospitalization. She will remain at Tony’s side in downtown Boston until Tony gets a new heart, recovers, and returns home.
