Help Provide Toulouse with Ongoing Vet Care

Meet Toulouse, AKA, Goose! If you saw him today you would never think there was anything wrong with him. From the outside, he looks and acts like a normal healthy cat! He goes on leashed walks with his parents, plays in the sun, gets wacky over catnip, and cuddles with his parents every night in bed. But sadly, Toulouse is experiencing a very unique and rare health issue and his medical bills have racked up to the tune of thousands. His loving pet parents have expended their savings getting him the care he needs, and they and Toulouse need your help!
Goose’s issues first started in November 2023, when Toulouse’s parents found him hiding, covered in bloody urine. Since then, Toulouse has not peed on his own and his bladder just fills up till it’s ready to burst. Once he held his bladder for 3 whole days and vets removed 500ml of urine from him. His bladder could have easily ruptured if he had not received treatment. For over a month after this incident, Toulouse’s parents had to take him to the urgent care vet every other day to have his bladder emptied, which was costing about $145-$250 each time!
Overtime and after meeting with different vets and specialists, Goose’s parents learned how to catheterize and drain Toulouse’s bladder at home, but the cost for the supplies to do this is still significant.
Toulouse has had two neurologists appointments, an MRI, a consultation with a urologist two hours away, and seen several different vets, all who have not been able to determine a cause or cure for this issue. He has already had the PU surgery and has no crystals or stones present in his bladder. Physically, there seems to be no obstruction and Toulouse does not even try to pee. The vet’s best guess is that the signals in the bladder that tell the brain to pee are being blocked somehow or are damaged. Toulouse luckily isn’t in any pain, but going long periods of time without emptying the bladder can be a serious and fatal issue and does damage to the kidneys over time. Catheterizing him daily has been doable, but there is a high risk of infection with doing this as well as doing damage to the urethra.
The next step for Goose is to be seen at NC State Vet Hospital and get more diagnostics done. This hospital is 3 hours away and does not take any payment plans, payment is due at the time of service. The diagnostics we have been told Toulouse needs are very expensive. (Second MRI with a contrast study, contrast study of the bladder, a bladder endoscopy, x-rays and maybe more.)
Toulouse’s parents need help paying for his continued vet care, as well as paying off the debt they’ve accrued the last few months from these issues.
Toulouse is a very happy cat who is extremely loved by his parents. His quality of life is still very good and his vets agree that putting him down over this issue is not necessary at this time. Will you be a beacon of hope and help us get to the bottom of Toulouse’s health problems?
Below are some photos of Toulouse and some pictures from when this first started(CW: blood) as well as a few invoices from various vets.
