Dear Everybody.......16th January 2017.
Thanks for coming this far to read my story.
Sadly, my NHS treatment options have come to an abrupt stop. My cancer is now resistant to Chemotherapy and I am desperate to find another treatment option that cannot be offered to me in the UK
I have desperately tried all available treatment doors, but they all just seem to shut in my face.
About me!
My name is Tracy Lucas, age 50 and I live in Grays, Essex. I live with my partner Raj and my youngest son, he is 11 years old. My 2 older boys also live in Grays Thurrock area.
I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Bowel Cancer in August 2015. I had no signs of being unwell, apart from a short period of time thinking I had pulled a muscle in my side!
This diagnosis was the most devastating news that anyone could receive, my world crumbled. I could never have dreamed that this was why my side was a little uncomfortable. The cancer was partially blocking my large intestine and had spread to my Liver. The hospital in Southend initially told me they were looking at a cure for me, but after just a couple of weeks I was then informed that I was incurable, another terrifying beyond belief bad blow, how can this be happening to me!? I had to pull myself together and be as positive as possible to beat this cancer, as new treatments are coming up all the time and I am a strong person, with as much to live for as anyone.
I started Chemotherapy in October 2015. This was really, really horrible and made me feel so ill, but I knew I had to get through it, not just for me but for my partner and my children. I had to have the chemo infused in my arm tube every two weeks, this went on for 6 months. At the end of the 6 months I had a CT scan in March 2016 to see how my cancer had responded to the first 6 months. It had stayed exactly the same from the diagnosis. Obvioulsy I was upset that it hadnt shrunk, but also hadnt got any worse!
I then had a 2-month break from the chemo to give my body time to recover from the poison. It felt really good to feel normal again, whatever normal felt like!
After the break, I had another CT scan in June to see how my cancer was behaving, it was a huge disappointment to discover that matters had got a bit worse. What next for me I asked, surely they can help me, I have too much to live for?!
Thankfully I was set up on a new regime of multi chemo drugs which started in July 2016 and due to last for a further six months, again to be infused every two weeks. This 2nd round of chemo made me even more poorly than the first, as if that wasn’t bad enough.
In October 2016, I had a major setback. The cancer had decided to block my large intestine which meant I had to undergo major emergency surgery to save my life. This was again a life changing experience and meant a long recovery period where I couldn’t even find the energy to walk.
It was in early December that Southend Oncology Unit told me yet again the devasting news that the chemotherapy was going to stop as it was causing me more harm than the benefits it was bringing. In fact, I was told that there was nothing else they could offer me and that I should basically go home to die with palliative care.
My last chemo was 3 weeks before my surgery in late October, so I’ve now been three months without any medication or treatment.
We have been researching high and low to find a reliable trustworthy alternative to chemotherapy. We have discovered a cutting edge private treatment called “Immunotherapy”. This treatment is not currently being used in the UK for my particular condition, so this gives me the greatest hope for an improvement or cure to my disease. The clinic we have found is the Hallwang Clinic in Stuttgart Germany. This seems to be one of the best clinics in the world for pioneering immunotherapy work.
I feel physically stronger now than I have for over three months, as I have recovered enough from the operation and feel fit enough now to undergo alternate treatment to help me.
Of course, I can only get this treatment through private funding.
Please, please, please can everyone continue to support me, fundraise and donate so I can proceed with this treatment. I would like to say a big big thank you in advance for anything you can give. Honestly, anything you can donate will all help towards my life saving treatment.
Even if you are unable to help by giving to my fundraising page, it will help enormously if you can Share this on Facebook so as many people as possible get to see this. There just maybe someone on your Friends List who is also able to help and Share.
Thank you so much. Tracy x
