Help Transalpine Redemptorists Build a Monastery
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Supporters,
The Transalpine Redemptorists are seeking to build a new monastery in the mountains of the South Island of New Zealand. It is now the main thrust of the development and expansion of our little Congregation, which we undertake for the glory of God and the salvation and sanctification of souls. We are, however, in lack of the necessary funds. So we come to ask you, please, to help us in this endeavor to preserve and expand traditional religious life in the Church.
We were blessed to acquire the property in the mountains two years ago and have named it Mount St. Joseph Kakahu (“cloak” in Maori) in order thus to place ourselves under the protection of St. Joseph’s cloak. Now, however, it needs to be developed into a monastery. We plan to build the new cells in the form of a monastic laura (individual cells linked by a path leading to the chapel and refectory), near the top of the mountain, so as to preserve the separation from the world so necessary for a monastery. Please see the photos for an idea of the land and to see the first prototype hut (a retreat cell in Rosary Gully). From this solitude, then, with renewed zeal we can go out to preach and to apply ourselves to other apostolic endeavours for the good of souls.
Many of our vocations come from the United States, and we are hoping to start a monastery there soon. By solidifying our monastic life in New Zealand, we will be in a better position to come to America, God-willing. Donations over and above the amount needed for the Mt. St. Joseph will also help to defray the considerable expense of educating our seminarians at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Nebraska.
Thank you and may God reward you for any help you can give!
