Help Travis Smith on his road to recovery!

At the end of April 2022, Travis collapsed on a rig floor. After being in two hospital facilities over the night, it was determined he had a major blood clot in his carotid artery. He was quickly airlifted to Covenant in Lubbock where the wonderful surgeon was able to remove the clot right before it became fatal. Due to limited blood supply to his brain, Travis suffered brain swelling and stroke-like effects. He had a surgery to remove half of his skull to help with the swelling and the right side of his body was affected. In order to heal properly and get the best care, Travis spent time in the ICU and the Neuro floor at Covenant for several weeks. Recently, he has been transferred to a rehabilitation facility in Lubbock where he is receiving PT, OT, and Speech Therapy daily. He is in high spirits, eager to heal and progress, and is doing wonderfully well accordingly to the medical staff. He is working toward mobility on his right side, cognitive function, and speech integration. After his stay at his current rehab facility, we hope he will be transferred to a facility specializing in brain injury treatment and rehabilitation. In August, he will see a Neurology Ophthalmologist for his peripheral vision loss and his neurosurgeon regarding a future surgery for his skull piece. Though he is doing considerably well in his situation, Travis still has a long road of recovery with no particular timeline. His mother, Cheree, has been with him in Lubbock since the end of April.
