Help Tres Get a Prosthetic Leg and Become Cuatro!

Donation protected
We gave Tres, formally known as Wyatt, his forever home on Christmas Eve of 2022 after reading his story on the Adopt a Boxer Rescue Facebook page.

Just a few days before Thanksgiving he was found in a field extremely malnourished and with injuries compatible with getting hit by a car. He could not put any weight on his front left leg and had multiple lacerations. He was taken to BARCS (Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter) by Baltimore City Animal Control and was then transferred to an animal hospital for pain management and further evaluation. The vet determined that there was too much damage to his leg to save it and he quickly went into surgery for a front leg amputation.

The day after Thanksgiving he arrived at his Adopt a Boxer Rescue foster home. After seeing his adoption post we immediately knew he needed to join our family. We powered through the adoption application and home visits in fear that someone else would adopt him! I even started prepping my house for a 3 legged dog. On December 22 we were approved to adopt!! Great…3 days before Christmas…what foster family has time to let us come meet him around the holidays?! The best foster family ever…that’s who!

December 24th we met Tres and took him to his forever home! Because bringing a new dog into our house 4 weeks post leg amputation and 1 week post neuter the day before an always hectic holiday seemed like the perfect thing to do!

It was! Tres surprised us every day. He was getting around well and had taken everything in stride. He played, ran around, went up and down steps just like he probably did when he had all 4 paws. We were definitely more nervous than he was!

On his first beach trip in May of 2023 we realized he was having some trouble. Even though he doesn’t realize it, Tres becomes winded very easily when outside playing or even a short leash walk. Dogs carry about 60% of their weight on their front paws. With the extra stress on his remaining leg paired with the common dangers of having a short snout dog (breathing difficulties and inability to cool themselves off as quickly) I started looking into options.

We came across the company 3DPets, which makes prosthetic limbs for animals, and immediately knew we needed to get him one to help extend his quality of life.

We're hoping to raise some money to help offset the cost of the leg and continue to spoil Tres with many more beach trips!

Any funds we raise past the cost of the prosthetic will be donated to Adopt a Boxer Rescue where he came from!
