Help Tresha - A Black Nurse Facing Workplace Trauma
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
My name is Vaughn Mowatt, and I’m reaching out to ask for your support for my aunt, Tresha Forrester, a compassionate and dedicated Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with over 15 years of service in healthcare in Ontario.
Tresha, an immigrant from the beautiful island of Jamaica has devoted her life to caring for others—not only as a nurse but also as a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and committed Christian. She has always provided exceptional care to her patients, but now she needs our help.
Recently, while on duty at the hospital, Tresha was subjected to a traumatic and deeply distressing attack. A patient directed a racial slur at her, calling her the N-word, and threw scalding hot coffee onto her face and chest. This horrifying incident has left her physically injured and emotionally devastated. She has been struggling with severe trauma, humiliation, and anxiety, making it impossible for her to return to work.
Despite the profound impact of this assault, her employer has refused to support her, withholding her pay due to her inability to work. As a result, Tresha is facing significant financial hardship while seeking the professional help she needs to recover. She is currently exploring legal avenues to ensure justice is served—not just for herself, but for other healthcare workers who may face similar situations.
Nurses like Tresha dedicate their lives to caring for others, yet when they need support, they are often left to navigate their struggles alone. This is unacceptable. We must do more to protect and support Black healthcare workers who face discrimination and violence in the workplace.
We are seeking to raise CAD $30,000 to help Tresha with:
• Legal fees to fight for justice.
• Living expenses while she recovers and seeks the support she needs.
• Therapy and counseling to aid in her healing journey.
This fight is about more than just Tresha—it’s about advocating for dignity, safety, and fair treatment for all employees, regardless of race or background. With your help, we can ensure no one has to face such injustice without support.
Please consider donating whatever you can and sharing Tresha’s story to help raise awareness. Let’s stand together to show her she’s not alone and demand better for our healthcare heroes.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
