Help Trevor "Bau" Stone Attend The Funeral of James Matthews
Donation protected
Bau has conducted a multifaceted arts history, both as a practicing and supporting artist, serving both local and international artists.
James Matthews was the stalwart who guided Bau development as a cultural worker and artist, and protected him in departing South Africa in 1969 to Europe under extreme circumstances, to join Dollar Brand/Abdullah Ibrahim.
My Mentor
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said of James "... a career and life's mission of journalism, poetry, short stories, essays and tireless denunciation of the apartheid system, the response to which included periods of detention and denial of a passport for more than a decade."
The purpose of this fundraiser is to cover Bau's costs of travel and accommodation to South Africa, to attend the funeral of his exceptional mentor James Matthews. Travel costs include return flights to South Africa from Australia, as well as accommodation along the way.
Bau aims to utilise my time in South Africa to evolve possible cultural options as a South African/Australian artist (retrospective).
