Help Trish Get a Wig While on Chemo

Donation protected
Hi, My Name is Lexie. I am the daughter of Trish. I started this Go Fund Me to help my mom through her cancer treatment and in particular raise money to help her purchase the wig she has fallen in love with as her hair is rapidly falling out which has taken a huge toll on her mental health.

Throughout 2023, my mom experienced tremendous pain in her abdomen landing her in the ER at one point. It was originally deemed colitis, but after persistent and worsening pain, she demanded another colonoscopy as she knew something was wrong. After a long journey of tests, on January 3rd 2024, we found out that the colitis was actually colon cancer. As the tumour was so aggressive, her surgeon quickly got her in for the colectomy and she went into surgery on January 17th. What was originally predicted to be a 4 hour surgery turned into a 9 hour surgery as there were a number of complications. As a result of the complications, my mom was given a temporary ileostomy bag to allow her body time to heal. The complications did not stop there. The recovery from surgery in hospital was originally meant to be 7-10 days, but she was admitted for a total of 27 days as her body was not healing properly. Eventually, everything turned around and she was released from the hospital in the middle of february.

While she was in the hospital, we also received the news from pathology that the tumour was far more aggressive than it was believed to be and her cancer had progressed to a stage three and had spread outside of her colon into her lymph nodes. She is now undergoing chemotherapy - she is on her 3rd cycle of 12 - which will be followed by 5 weeks (5 days a week) of radiation. After this radiation we hope that she will be able to undergo a ileostomy reversal! While she is going through treatment, my mom is off work and on disability pay. She is experiencing a number of side effects most of which are manageable, but what is impacting her the most is her hair loss. She has been trying on wigs recently and found one that she fell in love with instantly, but there is a slight problem...they do not run cheap.

It is our hope that we will be able to raise enough money to help with this wig purchase to give my mom some sense of normalcy and allow her to feel as comfortable and confident as she can through this difficult journey. She has gone through a number of changes in her body since being diagnosed and this wig will greatly help with how she feels about herself the more she progresses through treatment.

Thank you for taking the time to read my moms story and considering a donation. Anyone who knows my mom knows that she will drop anything in an instant to help someone she loves and cares for so this is the least I could do for someone as selfless as she is. We appreciate all of your support and love through this process.

With love,
Lexie
