Help Tucker with Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Our friend Tucker McCumber was recently diagnosed with stage 4 Colon Cancer. Further testing and imaging has shown the cancer has spread from a tumor in his colon to his abdominal way and the fluid in the abdomen. Tucker will soon undergo surgery to have a temporary colostomy bag put in place. This surgery will require Tucker to take potentially a significant amount of time off. He will have to stay in the hospital a couple of days following surgery and then another 4-8 weeks recovering before he will begin to feel himself. Anyone who knows Tucker knows that this will be a difficult time for him.
Tucker is currently a very active member of our community, he has been on the Shell Lake Fire Department since 2009 and has ranked up to Captain, he is also an EMS First Responder, and one of our 911 dispatchers. Tucker previously worked for Barron County working as a dispatcher but after doing some contract work for Washburn County on their radio system in the spring of 2021, he was then offered a job to fix the county's end-of-life radio system and work as a dispatcher. Tucker was happy to accept a job in the county he lived in but because of this career change he does not qualify for the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). In order to qualify for FMLA, you need to have worked at your current job for 12 months. Tucker is now faced with the financial and emotional burden of fighting stage 4 cancer and also having to take unpaid leave if he gets to sick to work.
We have started this Go Fund Me in hopes of alleviating the financial burdens that Tucker is facing. Tucker had always been the one helping others in their times of need whether it was putting out a house fire, performing CPR on a patient while waiting for a ambulance to arrive, or keeping our officers safe while dispatching. It is now the time to help him in his time of need.
