Turnip Fish Theatre Company to Edinburgh Fringe!
Donation protected
Hi everyone!
I am trying really hard to FINALLY achieve my dream of bringing an original play up to Edinburgh Fringe. As some of you know, I was supposed to head up to Edinburgh with a group of friends (including My Pretties actor CJ Jones), with another comedy play we'd written back in 2020. Unfortunately, Covid disrupted our plans and we never made it up to the festival.
4 years later, I have my own theatre company in-progress, and a brand new play especially for Edinburgh! My Pretties is an outrageous absurdist comedy about modern day witchcraft and one rather disgusting smoothie. It is a three-hander, starring Freya Gustafson, CJ Jones and myself. Also heading up to the Fringe and keeping us all in line (as usual) as our Front of House Manager is Charlie Collett. We have arranged to bring My Pretties up this year, for Fringe 2024.
Edinburgh Fringe can be a wonderful opportunity for networking, making industry contacts, gaining reviews and finding support for fresh theatre companies. As well as this, it is a lot of fun and would be a huge achievement for us as a company.
The thing is, Edinburgh Fringe is growing every year and is getting more and more expensive. As a fresh start-up, we simply don't have the funds to support ourselves with our first fringe show. The venue itself costs £1850, which is actually quite reasonable for two weeks at the Fringe. All our donations will go towards the cost of the venue. If we are fortunate enough to make more than that, it will go to our 'Fringe Pot', which we will split between the four of us to cover the cost of costume, props, travel, food and accommodation.
We are determined to head up to Edinburgh once and for all, come hell or high water, come pandemic or cost of living crisis. The show will go on (this time!)
We are working hard to provide entertaining fundraising events, including: a ghost tour, pub quizzes, scratch nights and previews of our fringe show, so keep an eye out for these, which will be happening around Otley and Leeds.
The simplest way to raise funds on top of these events, is to just ask for support! So: friends, family, theatre lovers, if you'd like to offer a penny or two to help us achieve our very long-winded dream and get a Turnip Fish or four up to Scotland this year so we can carry on putting on our funny little plays and improve our odds at becoming a real company, we would love you forever.
If you've read this far, thank you for your time. The arts are always in need of your support, and you've already given yours by reading our story. We hope to thank you from Edinburgh Fringe this year!
