Help Two Sisters in NC Left Homeless by Hurricane
Donation protected
I’ve spent the last few days in a mountain community outside Asheville, NC working with a local church trying to do anything to help the victims of Hurricane Helene. These two sisters, Jackie and Cynthia, have one of the most incredible stories I have heard that lived to tell it. The loss in this region is unbelievable and sadly the survivors are hearing again and again that their homeowners insurance will not cover their loss because people who live on top of mountains didn’t have flood insurance. I live in the Piedmont area of NC and I don’t have flood insurance. No one ever expected mountain people to have flood insurance because mountains don’t flood like this. When I heard their story I knew I had to advocate for them because they have 9 more days in a sad little motel and then these two sisters in their 70’s will have no home. There is no house to rebuild only 3 acres of land with only a deck left standing. Friends they need help in the most desperate way possible. The only thing Helene didn’t take from them is their life. They have no cars, no house, no furnishings, no dentures, no hearing aides. Mudslides and flood waters took it all but I believe in the compassion and generosity of their NC neighbors. Please watch their story and pass this on to anyone you know who can make a difference. If anyone wants more information I’d love to talk to you or put you in touch with the church who is loving this community so well.
