Help two trans lesbians pay their bills
My name is Rachel Leyba. I'm an autistic, disabled trans Latina in Albuquerque, New Mexico. My partner, Lily, is also trans and neurodivergent. For several years I've been hoping to become a baker. But in the last few years I have developed mobility issues that make it difficult for me to work standing for more than a short time-- an hour or so at a time. This means that my previous career goal is likely to be impossible for me. As a result I returned to my previous field of clerical work.
Since the last time I made one of these, things had started to look up again for me for several months. I had a steady seasonal job for the first part of this year, and between that and mine and my partner's stimulus payments we were able to manage fairly well for quite some time. Unfortunately the seasonal position was at a tax prep company and came to an end when the tax season did, and I haven't been able to find another since. When my job ended my manager assured me that in the fall when the tax season started again they would gladly take me back. We were able to live on our savings for a while, but they're nearly depleted and although I should qualify for unemployment at this point, it has been a practical struggle to successfully apply for and receive it. I'm hoping that I will hear from them or my employer soon but until then my partner and I need a little help from some of our kind friends. Your donation will help us pay for rent, groceries, utilities, medication (including hopefully soon HRT for me after more than a year without it!) and other necessary expenses for my partner and myself.
