Help Two Trans Men out a the Shelter
Donation protected
My husband and I were kicked out of my homophobic/transphobia emotional and financial abusive mother in Dec of 2018. We have been bouncing from unstable and unsuitable housing situation from to the next—-from crashing at m husband extremely transphobic and emotionally abusive grandmother’s, to our terrible month’s stay at Auburn Place—-the conditions of which can be seen and explained in the pictures below. This was our ‘home’ where we slept without a lockable door, proper blankets, access to showers, dormed next a violent domestic abusive couple which was triggering given both of my partner’s and I’s histories. The food provided was uneatable, served spoiled and frozen and resulted in multiple hospitalizations from food poisoning.
After two turpentine cycles, we were finally considered eligible for the family voucher we are pursuing to obtain permanent and independent housing. Unfortunately, our new faculty is better but not by much—-we in a room meant for one period, with not enough space for all of our clothes in the closet. There is only one communical bathroom despite stressing to numerous social workers at Auburn, AFIC about needing private bathrooms as a transgender individual and no kitchen on site. We are housed next to another violently abusive couple despite reporting the issue multiple times---nothing is done. We are once again the youngest on our floor and to our knowledge the only trans individuals as well. We are keenly aware that our safety isn't a big concern because there are numerous fights and screaming from our fellow residents well into the night.
Additionally, we have our bare needs neglected---in terms of hunger and access to clear water. While we are provided with a mini fridge that is 3 feet high and a foot deep no food is provided on site nor are we allowed to have a hotplate and cook on site. We are expected to just be beholden to food pantries or to buy food that can be cooked through the microwave. The water quality is terrible and cloudly.
We are desperate to get out of the shelter system and you can help. We need a requirement of two months rent plus a deposit to be eligible for a voucher. Given that neither Stephen or I work ( I, currently go to school full time but looking for part-time work ) and Stephen struggling to find full time employment---all donation we recieve go the bare essentials ( food, toiletries, transportation to HRA appointments. ) We decided to use go fundme as a dedicated space for donations given to save for our place.
