help us get the heck outta here !!!

TLDR: Please help me and my roommate escape Utah before we die here.

My name is Angel. I was halfway through finishing my degree when my adoptive family kicked me out for being "too transgender" to have around their children. I have been told by strangers, coworkers, and family members alike that being trans is a disease, contagious, and downright sinful.

In 2022, one of my best friends, a trans woman, was interning at the legislative session where they passed HB11, where they banned trans women from playing in school sports, then overruled the governor's veto on the bill to make sure it passed anyway. There was nothing she could do, even in the same room as the people signing these laws spat vinegar at each other about people like her.

In 2023, Utah banned transgender healthcare for minors with SB16.

In 2024, this past year, lawmakers like Kera Birkeland passed bill HB257, "Sex-based Designations for Privacy, Anti-bullying and Women’s Opportunities". Which is a misnomer. HB 257 bars transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people from accessing privacy spaces and other facilities in public schools and government owned or controlled spaces. Meaning most of Utah, as many buildings are owned by the government or the church.

Ever since the election results in November, my pharmacy's computer system has switched back to deadnaming me. I had a legal name change years ago.

In 2025, I'm scared what they will do next.

My roommate and I are transgender lesbians living in the very very VERY Mormon state of Utah. We (and our 2 big fluffy orange cats!!) are not optimistic about the future here in Utah and what it may bring. We are dirt poor and have no family we are able to rely on for help. Rent and bills take up all our money, and this last year I had a huge medical emergency that I still cant afford to be paying....

This is where I come to you, dear reader, the internet, for help.

I have a place to go, with many long time friends, and my girlfriend, across the country, where we can be safe, and hopefully not just survive, but thrive!

BUT!!!!!!!!!!

We need your help.

From Utah to Pensylvania, here we go!

We need to be able to afford a Uhaul, rental car, gas money for the drive, pet and human food, pet carriers for our cats, and boxes for the move.

We also need help affording the first month's rent and deposit on the place. We can barely afford our own rent, and saving up is impossible with all the bills we have on our plate. When we move, we will have to lose all our furniture and most of our belongings to do this in the most cost-effective way, and start entirely from scratch when we arrive. There will be so many fees I probably don't even KNOW about. This will be my first move across the country, and I'm scared. I want to be prepared for what's to come.

I did a lot of research and found between everything, our safe estimation should be around 6K USD in order to move everything and everyone safe and sound, and to ensure we are stable while we find jobs in our new location.

Please, please, help us get out of this state before things get worse.

Anything will help us, even if you only have a few dollars to give, a few dollars from many people adds up!

But bigger donations do add up quicker! They will allow us to get out of here sooner before the next laws they make in February take effect.
