Make Indigenous Desert Dreaming tours a reality
Donation protected
It has been a long-held dream of Ngangkari (traditional healers) of the Anungu people of the Ukata lands to lead, suitably respectful, dreaming journeys through the traditional lands of the Central Australian desert. The Anungu people are the traditional owners of Uluru and to undertake these tours respectfully and meaningfully requires significant resources. We are raising funds for an initial small pilot group to travel with the Ngangkari through the traditional sacred desert lands to assess the viability long term and also the value this offers for the local communities, as well as the participants themselves. Further funding rounds may be sought if the pilot proves successful so that we can offset costs for further trips, to keep the cost for participants as affordable as possible.
This initial trip will also, possibly, involve the filming of a mini-documentary by an Aboriginal filmmaker, that will highlight the aims, approach and expected benefits of this 5 days desert journey, sleeping under the stars in swags led by Ngangkari. This trip will also capture the essence of the dreaming times we currently all find ourselves in, with a focus on eagle dreaming and the song lines so crucial to the Ngangkari. The aim is to share the ancestral stories and experiences with the Ngangkari themselves on ancient land and with the ultimate aim of spiritual connection.
The trips are available to anyone, Aboriginal and Non Aboriginal, who approach the experience with authenticity and an open heart.
