Support Ukrainians Settling in Canada
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Tammy Jeanveaux and a family from Odessa, Ukraine will be coming to live me while they settle into life in Canada. Depending on the funds raised, my goal is to bring more families over to stay with me. If you have been wanting to support Ukrainians that have been uprooted due to the atrocities that Russia has inflicted on them with this horrible war and want to know that your money is definitely getting in the hands of Ukrainians in need, then please support this fundraiser. While I will be seeking support from existing organizations already set up that help Ukrainians settle in Canada, I want to ensure that the families arriving here are supported financially during this incredibly difficult time as I simply don't have the means to support them financially by myself. My intent is to get this first family settled then bring over the next family, and so on.
The first family I am bringing over is a a beautiful family of 4 from Odessa, Ukraine (as you can see by the cover photo). The family fled their home on March 4 and are currently in Romania. The mother is a nurse and the father is a baker. The daughters are 17 and 7 years old. The oldest daughter is the only one that speaks English and is the one that I’ve been dealing with. Her concern was to find a good school for her little sister and a job for her father, mother and herself. She kept repeating that over and over and sounded so stressed about it. Think of what we were doing at 17 years old. She is essentially saving her family by helping them settle in Canada and start a new life here. So much for a girl that young to have on her shoulders and I want to help however I can.
When I asked why they wanted to come to Canada they said “We want a new life in Canada. A country of the future, a country of opportunities and good people. We are very grateful if you help us with this. Peace for everyone”
I have done my due diligence and have verified their passport and confirmed their address in Ukraine. In addition, I have spoken to them on the phone. This may sound harsh that I did this but I wanted to be sure the funds are going for legitimate purposes.
Funds Raised:
Every single penny raised will go to helping Ukrainians settle into Canada. I will seek as much help as possible from existing organizations, but all money raised from this GoFundMe campaign will go to all or some of the following that cannot be obtained by existing support organizations:
o airplane tickets for the families
o transportation (a car or other forms of transportation) so they can go to appointments, work, school, etc.
o cell phone and laptop so they can get jobs, communicate with family at home and with Ukrainians here, help with schooling.
o training – ESL and other training to help them settle in Canada
o rent (1st and last month's rent ) for them to eventually settle in to their own place
o furniture, appliances, other necessities above and beyond what will be donated to them (e.g. school supplies, clothing, food, etc.)
I calculated approximately $5,000 to $7,000 (for some or all of the above) per family and I am hoping to help up between 3 to 5 families depending on the amount raised. Already in trying to bring this first family over, I am realizing that the cost to start a whole new life in a new country adds up very quickly so financial support is really need.
A bit about me:
While this has nothing to do with me and everything to do with these Ukrainian families in need, I felt it important to write a bit about myself for those who don't know me so you know that the money is in good hands. I work in security for the Government of Canada. I love my job and I would never do anything to jeopardize it. To be in my position, I have undergone Secret level clearance which includes a criminal record check, education check, credit check amongst other things. So please rest assured that every single penny will be accounted for and spent on the Ukrainians and that I will be transparent with the funds spent.
Why am I doing this?
The one year anniversary of Dan’s death is approaching and he was the kindest person I have ever known. I wanted to do something to honour his memory and I can’t think of a better way to do that than to spread kindness just as he always did. I chose to open my house to Ukrainian families because like everyone else I saw the horrible images on the news of what is happening in Ukraine and I just knew I wanted to help. I have a lot to give and so many families are in need and I found a site that connected families with hosts which is where I found this lovely family so I feel it was meant to be.
If you’re able to help, please give to this GoFundMe and kindly share this with your family and friends.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support.
