Help UKWOT install Otter Crossing Signs in Braunton, Devon
*Update - Thank you to everyone for their kind donations, we are so thankful that you helped us reach our goal so quickly. We upped the goal and any more donations past our original goal will be used to install signs in other areas.*
As part of our Slow Down For Otters campaign, we are fundraising to cover the cost of 6 'Caution Otter Crossing' signs, including the posts, materials and installation. The signs will be installed on the A361 at Heanton Court. On average 4 otters a year are killed by cars on the A361 at Heanton Court.
Every year countless Eurasian otters lose their lives or are severely injured on UK roads. Roads have historically been built through otter’s and other wildlife’s habitats. Otters have very large territories of 20-30 km, which often forces them to cross roads, endangering their lives. Road fatalities often don’t only affect one otter, when a female is hit, she may be leaving behind cubs that depend on her for survival. At the UK Wild Otter Trust, we have already rescued cubs this year that were found near a deceased female on a roads around the UK. Prevention is key for this threat to otters!
Unfortunately, the local council won't fund the signs so we are fundraising to have them installed. We need to fundraiser to install these as it will use vital funds otherwise spent on our cubs, but as we lose so many we see a justification in providing signage. All installation work will be carried out by UKWOT volunteers and the funds needed are for the signs and materials to help save our otters.
You can make a difference by donating today to Uk wild otter trust. We are a Devon-based charity dedicated to protecting and promoting a positive understanding of the European otter and its conservation. All funds raised from items sold on our eBay shop will go straight to rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing Eurasian otters. Find out more about our work on our website https: ukwildottertrust.org/
