Help Uncle Bobby Camara get his mobility back
Donation protected
Aloha,
For those of you who know Bobby, you probably know that in 1955 he was one of the last people in Hawaii to contract Polio. He was left with a paralyzed left arm, but that has never deterred his fierce independence. Recently, Bobby began suffering from Post Polio Syndrome; a group of disabling symptoms that appears decades after contracting Polio. In just a few weeks, Bobby experienced a severe decline in his ability to use his legs. As a result of this, he is now unable to walk, drive, or move about freely. Bobby was required to make the difficult decision of moving into a care home where he is able to receive help with the daily tasks that we all take for granted.
As an avid hiker and naturalist throughout his life, it is very important to Bobby to be able to continue to get out in nature and enjoy his favorite paved trails at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. In order to do so, Bobby needs an electric wheelchair and (hopefully) a wheelchair-accessible van, so that his friends and family can drive him places and Bobby can then roll around freely in the places where he used to walk. The first $5,000 of these funds will go to funding Bobby's Wheelchair. If we are able to get near our goal, of $75,000 we will be able to buy Bobby a van modified with a fold-out ramp so that he can roll on and off in his chair, and then be secured in the van without needing to be lifted in any way. This way anyone who visits him can use the van to go out on excursions together. There are a number of new and used van options available, however, the more we raise the newer and higher quality wheels we can afford!
Mahalo and Aloha for your help and support!
