Help Underhoused Couple Secure Safe Place to Live

hi, my partner and i became homeless in aug 2021, first living in hotels and airbnb for two months, then staying in our friends' garage since late october. the homeowner would like us out of the garage this month, but our friends have offered to let us use part of their barn instead.

 

we need financial help with renovating the barn to make it more livable. i have a part time job, so now i have some income to cover our food, pet care, meds, etc. and will be saving money for this over time. truthfully i am working the absolute maximum i can with hypermobility / burnout. meanwhile my partner is just trying to not drive off a bridge while dealing with chronic illness, pain, trauma, and significant dental needs. life is stupid but we are alive.

 

we are hoping to raise around $2,500 total which will include sealing one door, renovating the other into a normal door, sealer and regular paint, ceiling and insulation, and flooring. someone has kindly already purchase a camping toilet for us from an Amazon wishlist (plumbing is unfortunately not an option). see below photos of barn in its current state, after cleaning. it is dry and ready to be painted with primer. 

 

 

a single bedroom in basically any city costs about $1k a month, and would require a down payment and often last months rent as well. that would easily surpass the cost of this renovation. so, i believe this will be worth it once completed. and from here i will be able to continue at my job and hopefully focus on medical care moving forward. we have been in unstable housing for years and now finally have some friends to build a support system with. also, our pets really love this area, and none of us really want to take another road trip to nowhere.
