Help Unpaid Teachers & Covid Efforts in DR Congo
Donation protected
Throughout the adoption process of our son from Congo, we were blessed to be connected with the amazing man that runs The International Christian University in Kinshasa. His heart is big and his vision for positive change DRC is even bigger! The school had been running smoothly and successfully for decades. Tragically, just a couple years ago, the school was victim to a horrific terrorist attack where all was destroyed. Even so, they persevered and continued their mission, teaching K-12, University, and Medical School in temporary shelters. But then...
Covid-19 entered DRC. The school was forced to shut down. Parents can no longer pay tuition. And the school's staff can no longer be paid. Two professors have already died from Coronavirus. But these amazing people DON'T GIVE UP. Even without pay, they keep working - both teaching online and trying to help with efforts to educate and provide protection against Covid-19. This is not like America, where emergency savings accounts are the norm, or where families can afford a couple weeks of food at a time to store in their homes. These teachers have children crying at night because their tummies hurt so badly from going without food.
We are trying to raise enough money to provide the teachers each with $500 for food (this will cover approximately 3 months of food, primarily consisting of basic staples, like rice and oil) and for $2,000 to go towards the school's medical mission of serving the community by making/distributing masks, soaps, and sanitizer. I know these times are tough for most of us, but our friends in Congo are literally starving. Anything you can do to help would be very much appreciated. MANY THANKS!
(Please note: Since the school does not have access to directly withdraw from GoFundMe, I will be withdrawing these funds and personally sending the money via Western Union to the head of the school in DRC. He will purchase all necessary groceries and covid supplies to distribute to those in need at the school and will provide detailed accounting. I will cover all wire fees. I will update this site as funds are distributed!)
