Help Update Life-Changing Equipment for Spinal Injury

Hi, I’m David Walton. I recently spent 5 months in hospital recovering from an injury to my cervical spine, and I was fortunate to receive incredible care at the National Spinal Injury Centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The therapists there helped me rebuild my strength and confidence, as well as basic skills such as re-learning to walk and using my body as I once did. The equipment in the Physiotherapy department played a huge role in my recovery, helping me regain mobility, strength, and independence, things I wasn’t sure I’d ever get back. Now that I’m home, I’m hoping to raise money to help update the equipment that so many people rely on for their recovery.

One piece of equipment in particular that needs updating is the Excite 2, a 12-channel FES unit used in both Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. It offers a variety of programmes that assist with everything from hand strengthening to mobility skills, and it was a huge help to me during my rehabilitation.

At present, the equipment at the National Spinal Injury Centre is outdated and in need of replacement. I’m hoping to raise enough money to help purchase new Excite 2 machines, so more people can benefit from them as I did. All donations will go directly to the Spinal Fund of Charitable Funding, and I’ve specifically requested that the funds be used to purchase this new equipment.
