Lets Help Uriel stay focused on his recovery

Hi everyone.  Many of you might be aware, my brother in-law, Uriel Escobar, was recently hospitalized unexpectedly. I contemplated starting up this fundraising campaign because I know Uriel and my sister are not the type to ask for help, but I am confident this would definitely relieve some of their financial stresses and allow Uriel to focus more on his healing.

Uriel’s illness started off when he caught a fever for five days which he attempted to control with over-the- counter medicine. He tried toughing it out and continued going to work in order to provide for his family because he recently switched jobs and had no available sick leave or paid vacation time.  Uriel had already missed a lot of work due to the recent SD rain storms and this unfortunately wiped out their savings.

On 03/31/19, Uriel’s health dangerously deteriorated. His fever worsened, he lost sight in one eye, and lost feeling in one hand. He was ambulanced to Temecula Valley Hospital with signs of a potential stroke, but after undergoing an array of medical tests, doctors ruled out a stroke and began treating him for meningitis & diabetes symptoms (which came as the  surprise). The meningitis was also ruled out but they confirmed he a had serious infection in his blood stream (possibly Sepsis or Endocarditis); they found fluid behind one eye which caused him to lose sight, as well as an unknown systemic autoimmune disorder.  He was  transferred to two different hospitals and is currently at UCSD La Jolla, where he is being seen by several specialists who are working to come up with a treatment plan and official diagnosis. There are many unanswered questions and my sister/the kids are devastated.  Uriel will remain on IV antibiotics for 4 weeks and he has yet to regain full eyesight which means he will not be able to return to work any time soon.

Last year, my 10-year old godson Josiah (Uriel’s son) was also diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder which they initially thought was Lupus and he was admitted into the hospital but they have yet to pinpoint the exact ailment. Josiah had another flare-up one week prior to Uriel’s hospitalization so you can imagine what an emotional time this has been for all of them, especially considering their oldest son just graduated from the USMC and is only home for 10 days before be goes away for a year.

Everyone who knows Uriel knows he is such a humble man, who brightens every room he walks into, loves making people laugh, and always works hard to provide for his family.  Although he is trying his best to remain strong and keep a positive attitude, it hurts me to see him and my sister worrying so much about their financial situation.  They have high emergency room,  hospital bills and multiple bills pilling up at home, so all of the funds raised will be used to help the Escobar family stay above water until disability payments kicks in.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to read Uriel’s story.  If you are able to help out, any little amount will be greatly appreciated.  Your thoughts and prayers are also very much appreciated.  Love you guys! Angelica
