Help Us Advocate for Our Dad

Hi there,

My name is Bre Sanders and I’m asking you to help my brother and I advocate for our dad. He is currently in the ICU fighting for his life. My brother and I have had a strained relationship with our dad and, unfortunately, he’s been stuck in the system for a long time. The last few years, he’s had difficulty maintaining a healthy living situation, struggled with untreated mental health and self-medicating. He was found in face down, seizing with a fever of 107 possibly due to heat stroke but the cause remains unknown, therefore doctors cannot give a proper prognosis. We don’t know how long he was there or how long he was sick before getting to the hospital. The last 3 weeks, he’s been in the ICU, on a vent, barely sedated but not waking up. Despite his shortcomings, we believe we have a moral obligation to advocate for him and to fulfill his wishes since he cannot communicate them.

My brother, John Kirton, flew from MT to GA to be by his side as we are the only family my dad has left. Since John has been there, he has shown minor improvements and we believe he will continue to progress so long as he has someone by his side who cares for him. With that being said, John is not able to work or generate income and has been paying for transportations, food, hotel, etc. with just the generous donations we’ve raised prior.

We will also need help getting legal counsel and funds will be applied to that.

My hope is to raise enough to keep John down there to continue advocating for our dad until he wakes up and we have a better idea of his prognosis. Right now, there are too many unknowns for us to abandon him to a facility that isn’t fully invested in his recovery.
