Help Us Bring PATCHES to Burning Man 2025!
Imagine a little house, nestled out in the vast, open playa, that looks like it’s been lovingly pieced together from all sorts of salvaged treasures. A whimsical, wonky structure with a sign that proudly spells out her name—“Patches.”
This is a project that’s more than just a structure; it’s a living, breathing story about resourcefulness, creativity, and the beauty of transformation. We invite you to be part of bringing this unique art installation to life at Burning Man 2025!
What (or who) is PATCHES?
Out in the heart of the playa, there’s a house like no other. Made from up-cycled materials, PATCHES is a funky, post-apocalyptic salvager’s dream home. Built entirely from “patchwork” materials, this little house stands as a testament to creativity and sustainability.
Inside, you'll meet Patches, a quirky, spirited character with her trusty sewing machine. She’s ready to patch up anything you need, whether it’d be a hole in your pocket, a pop in your tire, or even a sweet tooth with a handful of sour patches! The interactive elements inside, like a vintage telephone with a secret on the other end and a cabinet full of all kinds of patches, encourage visitors to step inside, explore, and have a laugh.
And the yard? Charming. Picture a patch of grass with a lawn chair, perfect for stargazing. Or pumpkin and cabbage patches to add some whimsical flair to the landscape. It's a playful and immersive experience—one where visitors are invited to unwind, explore, and even leave their own “patch” behind as part of this collaborative art piece.
Why We Need Your Help:
Bringing PATCHES to life and to the Black Rock Desert is no small feat! We need your support to make this dream a reality. Your contribution will help us do the following:
- Building the House: Constructing PATCHES from up-cycled materials and ensuring it's safe, functional, and visually stunning.
- Creating the Interactive Elements: From the hand-cranked sewing machine to the telephone, every detail matters in making this a truly interactive and immersive experience.
- Bring the Magic to Life: Our team will spend countless hours setting up, assembling, transporting, and ensuring that PATCHES is fully operational safe and ready to surprise, delight, and engage the community.
What Your Donation Will Fund:
- Materials for construction, including salvaged wood, windows, doors, fabric, and other up-cycled elements to create the house and its interactive features.
- Tools and equipment to build the structure, add sound, lighting and patch the whole thing together. And of course the vintage sewing machine!
- Props and decorations for the interior and yard, including pumpkins, cabbage, and other whimsical touches.
- Transportation and setup costs to get PATCHES safely to the playa and fully set up for the event.
- Sustainability efforts to ensure we up-cycle at least 80% of the materials and work with the environment in mind.
- ARTISTS! You’ll be directly supporting creative visual artists in their never ending pursuit of creating large sculptures for the public.

After the event, Patches will be sent to the Joshua Tree area in California to serve as a tiny house for a person in need.
