Help us build a school in Haiti !

Hello and thanks for coming to visit our page!
Jefferson Mangus, Juliette Mangus, Amy Konieczny, Emily Whiting, Ruthie Ochman, Catrina Thomas, Xima Grube, Kara Dallimore, Nazli Oguz, Claudia Nagel, Michael Cohen and Andi Cohen are excited to announce our update for our campaign for building a school in Haiti!
Despite Haiti being the first free colony from imperial French rule, Haiti has a literacy rate of about 61% for Latin American and Caribbean countries compared to the average 90%. Approximately half of children do not attend school, and 30% of children attending primary school will not make it to the 3rd grade, 60% won’t make it to the 6th grade. The funds will be going towards the 15 of us going to Haiti and building a school from the ground up with the help and guidance of a program called BuildOn.
We came up with the idea as some co-workers from LinkedIn, Anne Stankevich and Brian Araujo had a successful and impactful trip to Haiti to build a school last year. Below are a few photos!

We plan to work side-by-side with villagers in one of the poorest countries on the planet to build a school and bring hope through education
So that you can understand the lasting impact this program has had, here is an update after Hurricane Matthew from another school that was built in Haiti.
"We received word from Haitian buildOn coordinator, Getro Deliscas, that the people of Julie used the buildOn school (the strongest building in the community) as shelter during Hurricane Matthew. Every last home in the village has been destroyed."
Here is the school that was build in this town.

Here is what the town looked like after the Matthew.

By raising $64,000 as a group we are able to partner with a community and help build a better future!
The money raised through our group is 100% destined to the construction of that school. It will also help cover the costs of the coordination, translators, food for the builders (us and those helping) and transportation while in Haiti and to Haiti.
Here are the numbers
Total Cost for Haiti School: $37,000
Adult Literacy: $7,500 (this program will help the parents catch up with the kids!)
Trek Fees: $13,500 (cost based on number of people - $900pp - 15 people) - Trek Fee is room, board, transport and security...
15 people's flights $400 each = $6,000
Total = $64,000 all inclusive room & board, flight and school
Any extra money raised less 15 people or over our goal will go towards a the next BuildOn school.
We would be so grateful if you could help us get there!
Thank you so much for everything. Love you all!
"Spread love it's the Brooklyn way" ! Please share this with others. Share on facebook, email it around, call your Mom and Dad! Anything and everything will help.
