Help us build Dear Annie!

dear annie is a barn-raising. as our city's creative and community spaces continue to be lost to rising rents and developers from out of town, we're hoping to lean on our friends and neighbors—and our scrappy inclinations—to build something real.

dear annie will not have slick design and all the bells and whistles; instead, our homegrown space will be handmade, built by us, our friends (and maybe you).

we're committed to questioning the ways in which our industry can do better—to asking how we can create safer, more equitable, more sustainable spaces in hospitality. dear annie will give us the opportunity to continue to do that on a broader scale. we plan to host more community events than our current spaces allow, and we're working with our architect to design a space that lends itself to that goal.

we need your help to buffer the soft costs of starting this project. soft costs include things like legal fees, architectural fees, and stuff like that. if you're interested in helping us with bigger-ticket things like construction and equipment costs, or if you feel like investing in your community (us), please get in touch with us. we'd be forever grateful.

here are some things we asked ourselves while dreaming up dear annie:

what would it look like if we rethought pub culture? can we reimagine this endangered social institution for a new generation? how would we best both serve and reflect our community if we did? how would our space provide opportunities for connection and the sharing of ideas? how would we choose to represent an equitable future for our industry? where do we want to spend time with our closest friends and family? can one space encompass our values, dreams, and hope for the future?

we don’t have all the answers yet, but we’re sure as shit gonna try to find out.

dear annie is a project that encompasses the things we love most: intimate, communal spaces, thoughtful design, sustainable foodways, and natural wine. we plan to be a wine bar, it’s true—but if we do this thing right we’ll really be a center for community.

we’re andrew brady, sara markey, and lauren friel. we’re your neighbors, and we can’t wait to make this space for you.

we’ll see you in 2020.
