Help Us Build The People's Home!
Tax deductible
Greetings,
We are a federally recognized tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit Organization. As such, donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
Foundation for Veterans Helping Veterans and Their Communities New York State(FVHV) is scaling up to make an impact nationally for homeless veterans. To think that some of our homeless, both men and women, are veterans bring sadness to my heart as a fellow Veteran. I would like to tell you a short story about a Vietnam veteran who was a Sergeant in combat. The story starts with the sergeant carrying their wounded lieutenant, they came in contact with enemy fire. So the sergeant hid the lieutenant and started to use their rifle and grenades to fend off the enemy's assault. The Sergeant then went back to pick up their lieutenant and took them safely back to the platoon. The sergeant was awarded the Medal of Honor(The highest medal to achieve.) As the sergeant made the transition to becoming a citizen veteran and more time passed, they made a statement, "Earning the medal was easier than wearing the medal."
Stop, close your eyes and try to emphasize the Veteran's feelings. Making that transition from active military to a citizen veteran can become hard. You can't see the enemy the same way you would see the enemy in the active military. The enemy is now depression, anger, hunger, homelessness, and financial literacy. If veterans do not recognize this enemy, the results can lead to suicide. In 2019, the Veteran suicide rate was 31.6 per 100,000, substantially higher than the rate among non-Veteran US adults (16.8 per 100,000).
We need your help to build a home for Veterans. We do not just want to build a home for Veterans, but we want to create supportive housing for them. We will provide them with case management, career counseling, vocational skills, mental health for PTSD and/or any co-occurring illness, substance abuse counseling, and dietary meals to make sure the veteran has the energy and strength to focus and continue to do day-to-day activities.
