Help Us Buy a New Diesel Generator for Our C2C Computer Lab

We are the Children2Children (C2C) Computer Lab, an initiative under the Future Leaders Initiative SL, (www.weareflisl.org) a nonprofit based in Sierra Leone that focuses on ending all forms of violence against children in schools, homes, and communities through advocacy, leveraging technology, and media. Our lab provides free computer education in basic computer skills, Microsoft Word, Publisher, and others to adolescent boys and girls aged 10 to 19 in rural Sierra Leone. This education helps them gain the skills they need to raise awareness of the issues we are addressing, fostering a better future.

The Problem:

In 2022, with support from our friend, we bought eight desktop computers and a 4kW petrol generator. We have replaced damaged parts like the carburetor and engine. However, the exhaust pipe has now been damaged, indicating that the generator is wearing out. Additionally, we have expanded our lab to fourteen desktop computers, and our current 4kW generator can no longer handle the increased load efficiently.

Our Solution

To address this issue, we need to purchase a new 5kVA diesel generator, which costs around $1,500 (30 million Leones). A diesel generator will be more efficient and less susceptible to fuel shortages, ensuring that our lab can continue to serve more children without interruptions.

Why Are We Asking for $2,000?

The additional $500 will cover the following expenses:

1. Transportation: Moving the generator from Freetown to the village (20.6 miles) - $50 (1 million Leones)

2. Diesel Fuel: Purchasing diesel for two months - $300 (6 million Leones)

3. Mechanic Service: Paying for installation and initial maintenance - $100 (2 million Leones)

4. Miscellaneous: Any additional unforeseen expenses - $50 (1 million Leones)

Impact Goal:

Our goal is to impact 3,072 children by 2030. So far, we have impacted 106 children since 2022. With your support, we can continue to expand and improve our services to reach more children.
