Help us cover Rikas snake bite emergency

Hi everyone!

On May 21'st of 2023, our Rika was being a bit too curious and pounced into some tall grass to investigate some movement. It turned out that the movement she saw was actually a rattlesnake which are common in the area. We were able to pull her away and get away to safety, but the snake had already managed to bite Rika, injecting its venom into her muzzle.

Thanks to our wonderful friend who quickly helped us find and get to an emergency vet, we were able to get her treatment for the bite. It took 3 viles of anti-venom and a long stay at the ER to save her as the snake had let quite a bit of venom out with the bite.

Rika is now back at home on the mend and is expected to be able to make a full recovery, but we found ourselves hit with a very high vet bill.

Unfortunately with this sort of emergency treatment, the cost ends up being very much on the high end, and despite Rika being a dog shared amongst 3 owners with their own incomes, it still ends up being way more than we are able to put out. Month to month we struggle to be able to afford our housing and daily needs, and as much as we would love to have a savings for such emergencies, we just haven't been able to do so due to cost of living, health issues, and other factors that make things difficult. Having this sudden emergency put us in a very dangerous situation, but we couldn't let our baby suffer and die.

We are creating this gofundme to help us pay the cost back and be able to put the traumatic experience behind us. The cost will cover the extent of the bill we cannot cover, which entails the cost of the anti-venom, overnight stays and care, medications, blood test, and other treatments she needed to receive.

Rika is our special girl who came into our lives just barely a year and a half ago. She is a Malamute/Rough Collie/mix who has a sweet and kind personality that quickly made friends with lots of other local dogs! She gets lots of daily outtings to the dog park and attends the local meet-ups with the Bay Area Husky Meetups group. When she's not out trying to meet and lick every dog that exist, she stays home and sleeps until one of her other owners comes home, then its go time!

Owners: We are a husband and wife with our wonderful roomate who all share Rika. We are always dedicated to her care and have always ensured that she lives a happy and interesting life. Rika truly means the world to us and we couldn't imagine a life without her as she has given us so much.
