Help us create BACH Reimagined

JAMES WILTON DANCE NEED YOUR HELP!

We need your support to help us create our new work BACH Reimagined.

James Wilton Dance are a small independant company with a huge output. Whilst many companies receive regular secure funding, we rely on grant applications on a project by project basis, which means our funding situation is never guaranteed. Despite these uncertainties we are up there at the top with our numbers of UK and international performances, with 40 performances in 8 countries in 2023 alone as well as hundreds of days of education activity.

Alongside our artistic work, and at the core of the companies ethos, is our desire to make the planet a better place. We do this through regular beach cleans and other environmental/animal protection work, something which we hope to expand into a community programme later this year!

The past few years we have been touring consistently with The Four Seasons (created 2021, 54 performances to date) and LORE (created 2022, 26 performances to date) and it is now time to create an exciting new work.

THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN

We are looking for funds to help create our next work BACH Reimagined for which we have a huge tour already booked for 2025. Currently we are lacking the funds to realise this ambition, so we are asking you our followers for support and can offer some pretty awesome rewards in exchange!

About BACH Reimagined

BACH Reimagined will be a collaboration between choreographers/performers James Wilton and Sarah Jane Taylor and Canadian Cellist/Composer Raphael Weinroth Browne who will perform live with the company. The work will take the work of Bach and re-imagine it for the 21st Century, creating something that feels familiar, yet routed in the here and now. As with all JWDs work the physicality will be pushed to the next level. Since creating The Four Seasons and LORE JWD have learned new skills and have reached new extremes with their already super athletic work. Thematically the work will explore the properties of light, drawing influence from Bach’s contemporary Isaac Newton. Although abstract, the work will retain the humanity and honesty that has made JWDs work so relatable for audiences.

Visually we are taking everything to a whole new level. We’ll be incorporating trampolining, flag poi and some of the most exciting lighting design in the game. JWD’s previous works have always been really stripped back in this respect, with minimal set and subtle costumes. BACH Reimagined will be bold, the visual elements will be as dynamic as the choreography but without being distracting.

BACH Reimagined is available for touring from Spring 2025 until at least the end of 2026. We anticipate doing a minimum of 60 performances of the work.

We’re aiming to raise £20,000 for this work. We realise this is a big target, but this is our most ambitious ever work, incorporating live music and the biggest stage design we’ve ever toured. By helping us create this work you’ll be helping us level up, realise our full potential as artists and compete with some of Europes biggest touring companies.
