Help Us End 3 Years of Homelessness

Donation protected
Hello everyone. I hope this finds you well. We are coming to the end of a long dark tunnel of homelessness. 3+ years. During that time, we’ve had children become adults, discovered life-changing illnesses, and lost a few friends along the way. But we are still trucking!

In spring of 2020, we went to court to try and stop the dissolution of our home purchase. There was a loophole caused by the pandemic. Sadly, the courts ruled we had to vacate and cancel the purchase of our retirement home in Desert Hot Springs. At no point did we think it would be that difficult to find a rental.

Fast forward 3 years and 4 months, we are still unhoused. About a week ago, we saw the light at the end of the tunnel. 17 apartment applications over four different counties… and we finally got the approval we desperately needed! With a move-in date of 11/28.

The negative side of this approval is the extreme costs to move in. We are required to pay prorated 3 days of Nov, full month of Dec, $600 base rent, and an additional approximate $2700 for a conditional deposit. Totaling in $6607 move-in costs. Insane, I know! But this is the reality of a credit-based rental approval system.

We are doing everything we can to save all the move-in monies AND successfully keep our temporary hotel rental paid for the next 5 weeks. Over the 3 years, we’ve acquired a lot of hotel points. So we will redeem them at this time so we can save all the money we can. We should have approximately $3k in total towards the amount. But we are in serious need to hit the full goal.

I’m personally baking cheesecakes and brownies to try and raise the funds @RuthsHomeBakeryHB on IG. The goal is 50 8-inch cheesecakes sold by 11/21 to make all the money in time.

I’m hoping to either raise the money via fundraiser or for exchange of some baked goodies.

Please help us end this nightmare of homelessness. It would allow my chronically ill husband to focus on his health. And would allow our mental health to heal after all this strife.

In no way do I EXPECT others to donate freely. But I hope I can at least entice you with some sweet treats and in exchange, we will become housed!!! One less family living unhoused in California. Together this could be a HUGE win. Please help us get there. Thx.
