Lilac City Brass - A new community brass band for Goulburn

Donation protected
Music has a remarkable ability to unite people and uplift spirits. A community brass band based here in Goulburn would provide an inclusive platform for musicians of all ages and skill levels to come together, share their love for music, and contribute to the cultural tapestry of our community.

Beyond the joy it brings to its members, a community brass band would also have a positive impact on our community as a whole. Through performances at local events, festivals, and community gatherings, the band would serve as cultural ambassadors, showcasing the talent and creativity that thrives within our community.

A community brass band can play a vital role in inspiring and engaging our youth. By offering music education programs, workshops, and performance opportunities, the band can nurture the next generation of musicians, fostering a lifelong appreciation for music and the arts.

“Learning an instrument is incredibly beneficial to the confidence, emotional growth, and behavioural development of children. In fact, music could help your children mature into well-rounded, emotionally stable adults.”

We believe that investing in a community brass band is an investment in the well-being and vitality of our city. It will create opportunities for connection, celebration, and artistic expression, enriching the lives of residents and contributing to the cultural vibrancy of our city.

A full brass band consists of 26 musicians. Since our Facebook post on ANZAC day requesting for expressions of interest, we have 11 local brass players committed to start a band - this is a great start.

We have received offers of support from many musicians and other brass bands including Band Association of NSW, Southern Brass, City of Holroyd Brass Band and Canberra Brass which has been extremely encouraging. Both Southern Brass and Holroyd Brass have expressed an interest in organizing a joint promotional concert in Goulburn.

We already have enough interested musicians to start a Brass Band, NOW!

This initial investment will fund the following to enable us to rehearse and perform in public;

Public liability insurance
Performing rights license
NSW Band Association fees

- for the first 12 months.
