Bright Star Performing Arts Simi Valley

Hi everyone!

My name is Brynn Crisp and I’ve been putting on shows since I was literally 4 years old. There is a photo of me standing on a stool in the middle of the living room giving a command performance to a “captive audience.” Lol. When I was in elementary school I would commandeer my friends to put on elaborate plays in the back of the playground where the trees made an outdoor stage of sorts. I would direct and my friends would give performances that made me so proud. ❤️

When I was older, I started directing shows at Elementary schools. When I saw the pride on the kids’ faces it brought me back to those days when I would direct my friends in the tree lined alcove on the playground. The happiness the children had onstage was infectious. Their pride radiated pure joy. It just made me want to do more- and reach more students.

I love to tell the stories of the kids who helped me with tech. I would recruit some kids who were “too shy” to be onstage to help move props and scenery. It never failed that those students would suddenly find their way to the other side of the curtain. 

I’ll never forget when I was working an event at Royal high school. We had borrowed their stage during their production of Annie. While I walked onstage admiring their set I noticed a student had left their script. I went to pick it up and when I turned it over tears filled my eyes. The name of the student was printed at the top and next to “role” was written “Daddy Warbucks.” This script belonged to a lead in the play. He was also one of my tech kids who as a middle schooler had sworn he was too shy to be onstage. However with some gentle guidance he found his way to the other side of the curtain. 

These are the reasons I want to continue to grow and build Brightstar performing arts. I want to be able to bring more opportunities to the youth of Simi Valley. At Brightstar I will be directing musicals to both Elementary and middle school age groups. 

In order to do this we need funds to cover startup costs such as securing a rehearsal space, rights and royalties for shows, filing fees, insurance, instructors fees and supplies.
