Ed's Journey with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

At just 18 months old, Ed was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a severe and progressive muscle disease. Duchenne affects 1 in every 3,500 boys and tragically shortens life expectancy to the mid to late twenties.

Duchenne is caused by a genetic mutation that stops the body from producing dystrophin, a crucial protein for muscle function. Without it, Ed's muscles are slowly weakening, making simple tasks increasingly difficult.

A Family's Determination

Ed's parents, Krystal and Andrew, have remained positive and hopeful. Ed has participated in a clinical trial for new steroids since he was four, which has helped slow the progression of his condition. Despite this, Ed now faces the reality of needing a power wheelchair for mobility.

Why We Need Your Help

To maintain his independence and quality of life, Ed needs an accessible vehicle. The NDIS has approved a standing electric wheelchair, but it requires a nearly new vehicle to accommodate the necessary adaptations. With the rising costs of vehicles and home modifications, the financial burden is immense.
