Help us get Louis Travis medically evacuated home
Dear Friends, Family and anyone who can help. Our Dad, Louis Travis, is in dire need of your support to get him back home. He is currently in intensive care critically unwell in another country, confused and alone.
We are currently trying to get him back home to his family and give him the care he needs. This means as a family we are having to fund an air ambulance to get him home. The amount needed is around £30,000. We are doing all we can as a family and have set up this page to alleviate the substantial costs to get him home safely.
On Wednesday 29th April my family and I were informed of the devastating news that our Dad had suffered a suspected stroke after being found on the floor of his balcony. Presumably he was there all night and lucky to be found that morning and was urgently admitted into Paphos Hospital.
In Paphos Hospital he was showing signs of a stroke, not being able to speak and not moving his left side however the scans do not show any stroke or brain damage. He then went into respiratory failure from severe pneumonia and was tested for COVID 19. He went from being on a CPAP machine, to help him breathe, to then being sedated and put on life support and a breathing machine.
Because his condition worsened he was moved to Limassol Hospital at the potential prospect of him being COVID positive, thankfully he is not, and they were able to stabilise his lungs.
The doctors and nurses in both hospitals have been amazing but due to the global pandemic we cannot fly to be with him and he cannot have anyone with him in Cyprus at this time. Sadly he is suffering on his own.
Communication is difficult and we have only one call a day, and information can sometimes get lost in translation. Dad does not speak Greek/Cypriot and is no doubt finding communication hard and confusing.
He has a large family who he loves to stay with and visit when he is home and when away he video chats frequently. He also has grandchildren who he loves and enjoys seeing and spending time with whenever he can.
As being myself an ICU nurse during the COVID epidemic, my Dad has been so supportive. He claps every Thursday along with the rest of the UK at 8pm (10pm in Cyprus) on his own to support his NHS and his daughter.
As you can imagine as a family and being so far from him we just want him home and will do anything we can to get him here but unfortunately this is at a cost and it would mean the world to us if you could help us get Dad home where he belongs right now.
We have full faith in our Dad to fight this and come back to us. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Please if you cannot help us financially, keep him in your prayers. Love, prayers and happy wishes to everyone and stay safe.
