My name is Emma and together with Ruba Ajrami I started this GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to evacuate Ruba's best friend Rita and her family.
Rita and her family have been displaced multiple times. Their home in the north of Gaza has been destroyed and they are now in the south. At the moment the border crossing is still closed for people who are not injured, but we are working on finding a way to get them out once it opens again.
The goal of this fundraiser is $31.000 USD (or €28.600 euro) to evacuate Rita Maisara Baroud, her sister Maria Maisara Baroud and their mother Khansaa Baroud. We based these costs partially on the prices to evacuate before the border crossing closed in May after Israeli forced invaded Rafah. Since the situation on the ground keeps changing we are holding on to this budget.
The money will be used for:
- Rita and her family to evacuate to Egypt
- Living expenses until they are able to find work
- Medical expenses for Khansaa who has severe scoliosis that worsened during the war
- 6 % GoFundMe fees
If it is not possible to evacuate Rita and her family for whatever reason, we will get the money to them in Gaza to help them survive/ rebuild.
About Rita:
Rita is 21 years old from Gaza City. Before the war she was studying French, but it has been really hard to continue her education since her family's house was bombed and they were left homeless. She and her family have been displaced more than ten times. Rita also works as a journalist, shining light on what is happening in Gaza.

Mijn naam is Emma en samen met Ruba Ajrami ben ik deze GoFundMe-campagne begonnen om geld op te halen voor de evacuatie van Ruba's beste vriendin Rita en haar familie uit Gaza.
Rita en haar familie zijn al meerdere keren gedwongen verplaatst nadat hun huis in het noorden van Gaza werd verwoest in een bombardement. Ze zijn nu in het zuiden van Gaza. Op dit moment is de grensovergang nog gesloten voor mensen die niet gewond zijn, maar we proberen een manier te vinden om Rita en haar familie te evacueren zodra de grens opengaat.
Het doel van deze GoFundMe is $31.000 Amerikaanse dollar (of €28.600 euro) om Rita Maisara Baroud, haar zusje Maria Maisara Baroud en hun moeder Khansaa Baroud te evacueren. Dit bedrag is deels gebaseerd op de kosten voor evacuatie voordat de grensovergang in mei dichtging nadat Israëlische troepen Rafah innamen. Omdat de situatie steeds veranderd, houden we voor nu vast aan dit budget. Het geld zal gebruikt worden om:
- Rita en haar familie te evacueren
- Levensonderhoud totdat ze werk hebben gevonden
- Medische kosten voor Khansaa die ernstige scoliosis heeft. Haar gezondheid is erg verslechterd tijdens de oorlog.
- 6 % kosten GoFundMe
Als het niet mogelijk is om Rita en haar familie te evacueren dan zorgen we dat het geld bij hen terecht komt om te helpen overleven/ heropbouwen in Gaza.

Over Rita:
Rita is 21 jaar en komt uit Gaza-Stad. Voor de oorlog studeerde ze Frans. Tijdens de oorlog is het huis van haar familie gebombardeerd en verwoest waardoor ze meer dan tien keer gedwongen moesten verplaatsen. Rita is in de oorlog begonnen met werken als journalist en schrijft over wat er in Gaza gebeurt.
