Help us get Terry home- a stroke recovery journey

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tiffany, Terry’s eldest daughter. On behalf of our family, I’m sharing Dad's story in hopes of raising some much-needed funds to help bring Dad home and ensure he doesn’t have to worry about ongoing support for rehabilitation and equipment.

Some of you might have already heard that on the 12th of July 2022, while on FIFO in WA, Dad suffered a severe and life-altering stroke to the right side of his brain. He was left in a critical condition requiring several surgeries to save his life. Unfortunately, this has left him with an irreparable brain injury and a missing portion of his skull. Dad's prognosis, for now, is heartbreaking. He has left-sided paralysis and neglect with vision and cognitive impairment, ultimately leaving him medically retired (unable to return to any form of work) with the unlikelihood he will ever walk again. He is currently in Perth receiving the best care and rehabilitation with his wife Sarah by his side.

Unfortunately, care flights to transfer an acute patient interstate can cost upwards of $50,000. At this stage, with that expense, we cannot bring him home in his current condition. This means that not only has Dad woken up one morning to learn that he had suffered a severe stroke, and his new normal now involves extensive physical and mental rehabilitation. It means he has to do it in another state away from his children, grandchildren and most of his family.

There is hope. Dad is improving every day. After all, he is a battler!!

We are optimistic we will get him home! Although still costly, once he has been rehabilitated to a point which he can sit for several hours (anywhere from 6-12months from now) we should be able to have him escorted by clinical staff on a commercial flight home where Dad can start to re-integrate into his everyday life in Brisbane, surrounded by his family and close network of friends.

For Dad, this is just the start of a long journey to recovery, which may never fully be over. However, with these funds, we can support Dad and ensure his need for ongoing rehabilitation and specialist equipment can be met, and we can help make that transition as smooth and painless as possible for him.

Thank you for your kind donations,
The Phillips Family.
