Hello everyone,

A few weeks ago our Mum was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that has spread to her brain and spine. In the space of just a few weeks she's already been through three brain surgeries. It came completely out of the blue and as a huge shock to our whole family.

We have been told that this type of cancer is incurable, and the outlook could be around 12 months if we are lucky, which we are still struggling to come to terms with.

Mum has spent her whole life putting others first and never asking for anything in return other than for her family to be happy.

For many years she worked as a carer, supporting and looking after people who needed help, and she was incredible at it. Anyone who knows her will know how naturally kind and compassionate she is.

She has so much to live for, 3 children, 4 young grandchildren and another grandbaby on the way. My sister is only 29 and about to become a first-time mum, facing the possibility of welcoming her baby into the world without her own mum there beside her.

Alongside the hospital treatment she will be receiving, we are also exploring integrative cancer care. This means supportive therapies and specialist consultations that work alongside conventional treatment to help the body cope with cancer and treatment.

These options can include things like nutritional therapy, specialist supplements and other supportive approaches that aim to improve quality of life and potentially help people live longer.

Unfortunately these kinds of therapies are not covered by the NHS and can be very expensive.

We know times are difficult for many people, so there is absolutely no pressure to donate. But I also know I could never live with myself if I didn’t do everything possible to try to give Mum the longest time we can together.

Funds raised will help with things such as:

• integrative therapy consultations

• supplements and supportive treatments

• travel and accommodation for appointments

• practical costs while we focus on caring for Mum

• if enough is raised, exploring specialist treatment options abroad
