Help Us Give Rick Rieger a Deserving Farewell

Hi, my name is Rebecca Rieger, and my family and I are grieving the loss of Rick Rieger. My father, who was also a great husband, a grandfather, a brother, and an uncle. He lost a long and hard battle to cancer at the age of 68.

In 2013 he was diagnosed with ring melanoma, and had to have his left eye removed, in order to prevent spreading to the brain. After that, there was no spreading, but he wasn’t confirmed cancer free. Since then, the battle continued. As of late March of this year, he was diagnosed with kidney cancer, and metastatic melanoma cancer, stage 4. As we went through the process of treatment, we stayed hopeful, and he put on the strongest fight he could. Since then, he went through more hospitalizations, and even physical rehabilitation centers to get him stronger to keep receiving cancer treatment.

Then, as of last month, we watched him slowly decline. We thought it was just side effects from treatment, but we were wrong. We got to the point were we had to make the very hard decision of putting my dad on home hospice. He came home on Thursday, July 11th, and passed Wednesday, July 17th surrounded with his family and loved ones.

He lived an extraordinary life, to the fullest; and was the smartest, most generous, humble, loving person i knew. Our hearts are extremely broken and we would love to give him the memorial that he deserves to honor his memory and say our last goodbyes.
