Help Us Give Rosie Cushing a Proper Burial

Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Ashleigh. I am the daughter of Rosemarie aka Rosie Cushing. As some of you may know her know that she was an amazing person inside and out. It is with a heavy heart that I am sitting here writing this.

Rosie became very sick in October with what we thought was a common cold. After 3 weeks of being sick, my mom went to the ER thinking that we were gonna be told she had Bronchitis or Pneumonia. Unfortunately, my mom was told there was a mass on her right lung that they found in an x-ray. By November 1, 2024, my mom had a biopsy done. She was informed she had lung cancer. By November 11, 2024, my mom got the news that she had stage 4 small cell lung cancer which is the most invasive lung cancer. This cancer affects 15% of those diagnosed with lung cancer. We were also informed that her cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, bones, brain and liver. During this visit we had discussed her options of having chemotherapy vs not having chemotherapy. She made the hardest decision to make. She made the choice to fight against the cancer and to take on the cancer treatments knowing that her body could take to the treatment and help shrink the cancer cells but not cure the cancer itself.

As my mother tried to remain brave she was in a lot of pain. Her days were spent sleeping as she tried her best to fight the fight. With each day that passed, my mom’s pain grew stronger than the day before. This landed her back in the ER on Monday, November 18, 2024. They decided to admit her into the hospital with the hopes of starting her on Chemotherapy as an in-patient. While they tried to manage her pain she became very weak. We learned that in order for her to have these chemo treatments she would have to sit up, eat and use the commode. My mom was so weak that all she was able to do is sleep. She hadn’t eaten in days (because eating made her get sick), and she was unable to drink.

On Thursday, November 21, 2024, the nurse gave her the last of all her medications before the doctors came in to her room to discuss with my sister, Jen and I, that our mom was too weak to go through chemotherapy which we knew this deep down but was hard to hear. Jen and I both knew the chemo was not an option anymore and that we didn’t want her to suffer. As much as we wanted our mother back, we knew it was her time to go home. The doctors told us that they were going to start her on comfort care only. As we sat there with her watching over her with tears in our eyes. We knew it was only a matter of time that her pain and suffering would come to an end. Little did we know how quickly she would have taken her last breath. At 5:18pm, we watched over her while she took her last breath. Her pain and suffering had come to an end while our pain of losing her become surreal. Though we feel so lost and broken without her we know she’s in a better place now. She is with many of our loved ones who have passed before her.

As many of you may know the cost of burial for a loved one is extremely expensive especially when it’s so quick. We would like to ask those of you who can help, to help us to bury our mother. For those who are unable to help. Please consider sharing this for us during our difficult time.

Those who knew her loved her as she loved them. Please remember one thing. If she knew you she loved you sincerely. She was kind, loving and compassionate. She had the heart of gold and would help anyone she could. We appreciate any form of help.

All money received will go to give her the proper burial she deserves and remaining will help with a head stone.
