Help Me Go to Black Feminism Summer School |Brazil
Donation protected
Please help me pay for Decolonial Black Feminist Summer School in Bahia, Brazil. I was accepted into the program for 2019 and was unable to attend because after returning from school and having a not being able to find a job for quite some time, I did not have the funds for tuition. My acceptance was recently extended for 2020 however, due to recently moving as well as my ongoing battle with debt, I do not think I will be able to pay for this program without community support. I would SOOOO appreciate your help so I can share this knowledge with you all and use the analyses gained to support our community at large!
The money raised will be for my tuition into the program.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
DECOLONIAL BLACK FEMINISM | http://www.dialogoglobal.com/bahia/
The International Black Feminist Decolonial School
Bahia, Brazil – August, 16 – August 22, 2020
The 2020 School will include:
ANGELA DAVIS – GINA DENT – ANGELA FIGUEREIDO – KARINA OCHOA – OYERONKE OYEWUMI
The International Black Feminist Decolonial School is the result of a collective effort by researchers and activists to establish an international network in order to bring together theoretical and empirical perspectives arising from black feminisms. The International School is the result of the partnership between the Center of Study and Investigation for Decolonial Dialogues (Diálogo Global) and the Collective Angela Davis Research Group at Federal University of the Recôncavo of Bahia (UFRB).
Our main objective is to contribute to the training and broadening of the dialogues in search of knowledge and political action about us, black women, and the world around us.
WHY DECOLONIAL BLACK FEMINISM?
(I mean why not but.....)
Bahia is Blackity Black Black Black

AND
Learning from and exchanging with diasporic Black Feminists will foster more nuanced understandings of grassroots organizing work that is informed by cultural expression. As the narratives of Black folks in the Global-North often saturate the narratives of the diaspora, there is much to be learned from an anti-imperialist and fugitive lens of Black feminists in the Global-South. As our struggles are intrinsically linked, we have many material and non-material resources to exchange amongst one another to strengthen our local and collective movements.
Now that I have returned to NYC from London, I have a better understanding of the necessity for Afro-diasporic analyses of colonial-capital to formulate well-developed strategies for grassroots organizing. I am deeply considering what strategies for fostering Black autonomies could manifest as throughout the diaspora. This program would allow me to exchange with an intergenerational group of Black Feminists to imagine how community art practice can create templates for Black liberated zones.
I would be honored to learn from/alongside the lineage of incredible Black Brazilian Feminists like Marielle Franco.
