Raising much needed funds for Brazil

Hi there! As some of you might know, we (Alex and Fernando) have been in training mode recently, hoping to tackle some big races that are coming up: Alex will run 42.2km at the Canberra Marathon (11 April), while Fernando will aim for his first official Ironman 70.3 in Port Macquarie.

This one of many, many things that make us feel so blessed to be here in Australia, where life is almost back to normal and big sport events like this are back on the calendar.

Meanwhile, Brazil has recently reached the mark of 275,000 lives lost for COVID. These are mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, uncles and aunts, grandparents, children, friends, relatives who are now gone. In addition to the deaths, the pandemic has brought hunger, misery and violence.



This is one of the worst humanitarian crisis of recent times in Brazil, with thousands of families living in extreme poverty in the middle of a pandemic. 

So we decided to do something about it and started this fundraiser. The money we raise will go to feed families in the areas identified as most in need: 222,895 families have been identified, those living in the peripheries, favelas, stilts, riverside communities and quilombos, throughout the country.

We want to support the campaigns raising funds for emergency actions to combat hunger, misery and violence in the Covid-19 pandemic.

We are so blessed in Australia and now more than ever we should reach deep and acknowledge this. With the AUD stronger than ever, every dollar we can donate will go extra far in Brazil.

An example of how your contribution helps:

$2.50: 3 packets of pasta or 1kg of beans (R$ 10)

$15: A box of groceries. (R$ 50)

$25: Provides basics for 1 family of 4 (R$ 100)

$50: Can feed 1 family of 4 people (R$ 200)

$100: Can feed 2 families of 4 people (R$ 400)

This article has listed two charities that are currently doing very important work in Brazil and we want to get behind. We will do a 50/50 split of all donations to these charities:

Our commitment: we will be transferring all funds over (50/50) to our 2 chosen charities via TransferWise. This comes with a fee that we are going to cover to ensure every dollar raised goes straight to the cause.
