I appreciate you just taking the time to read this - I know that most of you reading this probably already give to charity and tithe to your church so I really appreciate you.
All I can say is that amazing things happen on these trips and lives are changed. A $1 over there can go way further than a $1 here in the states
I am one of the doctors that has teamed up with Epik Missions to change the health of the communities in Ghana, Africa.
We will be leaving for the Mission's Trip in Late August. We will be reaching out to those with no access to any form of health care. From ORPHANS to the most REMOTE villages, they will be offered care.
Your donation does NOT benefit me in any way. I believe in this cause and mission that I am paying roughly $4K to serve these communities and so are a few other doctors and, even some students from US Chiropractic Colleges.
We work very hard on the trip. Each doctor/student will be adjusting at least 5 hours a day and serving up to 1,000 people a day, the average is 400/day. We don't just serve in the city but we also go to remote villages.
Any donation will serve specific needs:
1. "Indestructable"-ish Soccer Balls, which can't be popped with even a nail. I have seen ordinary soccer balls last seconds and pop on broken glass. These balls are $40 each, plus shipping over there. This was one of the original thoughts to just give the local orphans and school kids are reason to SMILE for many years to come. I hope to take at least 15 of these over with me.
2. Portable Chiropractic Tables. Remember, we will be servig an average of 400 people/adjusts each day PER person (many days 1000 each) and have to be able to transport these tables to different remote villages. We are a few heavy tables and many tables DO NOT make it back and stay in Africa in pieces from this service. Plus, many of the doctors and students do not have portable tables - so you must work in shifts, ultimately serving less people. I hope to purchase 2 tables that will survive the trip and be left with the charity for future missions. Strong, lite tables cost about $550 each, so $1100 total plus shipping. These will allow us to serve so many more people :)
3. PLEASE DON'T LAUGH. Goats. I am still trying to get the exact costs for these. Goats are a lifeline for many villages and families. Goats give milk and if you have a few can be bred for additonal goats and meat.
4. Money for diapers and food. In past trips, we have been able to purchase diapers and food for 6 months. These orphanages care for 32 small children. Your donation can go so much further there.
5. Water needs. Wells for villages are very expensive $7-10K easy. I don't think we will collect that much money (please try to surprise me). In the past, we have donated money to purchase tanker trucks of water for villages that had contaminated wells from flooding. We have also donation money to cover part of the well install cost.
Epik Mission has run trip to Africa for 11 years so we have correct LOCAL contacts to make sure the money gets to the CORRECT places and doesn't get taken via corruption.
We just hope to have friends, family, business associates, kind stangers help people across the world with HEALTH, SMILES, and LIFE-IMPORTANT NEEDS :)
