Help Us Help the Strays of Manila
Donation protected
Hi! We three crazy dog ladies, Rebekah, Karen, and Niccola, are going to put in some elbow grease, blood, sweat, and tears as we partake in a 2 week trip to volunteer as much as possible in Manila, Philippines with various rescue organizations and public shelters. We are traveling to the Philippines November 18th through Dec 1st on our own dime (airfare, lodging, food). We are doing personal fundraising (yard sales!) in order to be able to bring with us funds that can be donated to the organizations we come in contact with, and the animal medical emergencies we will run into as part of the daily struggle for dogs and cats in Manila. 100% of all monies raised with go to the animals there.
Why Manila? It started when Rebekah went for a military operation in Manila in 2013 and saw the vast need to help street and shelter animals in Manila due to massive overpopulation, lax laws, and limited resources for rescue. This turned into something of an annual trip, going over on her own dime or sometimes in conjunction with military orders, where there was ample opportunity to volunteer and never enough funds available to feed, house, and provide basic substances to the animals on the streets and the animals that wind up in city shelters (pounds). In 2014, Karen joined Rebekah and together they “volun-toured” for a few weeks trying to make even a brief amount of difference by volunteering where needed and bringing much needed funds to those doing the real boots on the ground work. Over the years, 6 dogs and 1 cat also were brought back to the United States in partnership with rescues on both sides of the pond.
What we will be doing: Rebekah, Karen, and Niccola are teaming up to work their butts off and bring as much as we can in our short time in terms of support and monetary aid. The need is just as much pertinent today as ever, as public pounds and private sanctuaries struggle on a daily basis to provide veterinary care, food, exercise and companionship to the countless animals taken in off the streets, along with educating a public about animal welfare; an idea still in its infancy. The volunteers who take care of these animals are the most selfless humans, and they deserve to know they are supported from all over the world, and the animals deserve the much-needed funds which can often mean the difference between life and death when disease and starvation are rampant.
We will also be helping at the countries first low cost (and often free) spay/neuter facility, as we know feeding a dog for one day is great but being able to further spay/neuter efforts so that others aren’t born to suffer is even better. We will be focusing on doing a clinic in Manila with Philippine Pet Birth Control Center, AND doing a clinic on the island of Bohol! Both will be as much about spay and neuter as it will be about education and awareness of the benefits of spay/neuter!
We understand animals EVERYWHERE need help, and the three of us spend our lives helping animals in our own backyards. Rebekah works for a low cost spay/neuter non-profit. Karen has spent every free hour for years educating the public on puppy mills and had a major player in securing California as the first state in the nation to ban the sale of puppy mill dogs. Niccola has a leading role in Last Chance at Life, a local non-profit, rescue with their own shelter, where she spends all her free time and energy. We all have our own packs, fosters, and spend our non-working hours helping dogs in SoCal and Mexico… We all eat, breathe and sleep: rescue, foster, spay and neuter. All we are doing is extending our compassion across the pond for a few short weeks and inviting our friends and family to follow us on this journey.
We also have a “wish list” of medical items we would like to bring if you would like to purchase an item for us to physically bring as well (see below). Some of the places we will be visiting, and you can check out their individual missions and donate to them directly instead of us if you so choose. We do ask you to “like” and follow these organizations as exposure is a large part of why we want to go, so that these organizations can receive more followers and support:
