Help us honor Bruce "Booman" Haynes' legacy

Donation protected
On September 16th, 2022 Bruce “Booman” Haynes was ushered home to be with the Lord.

We are asking for your help to honor him in the way that he lived his life, surrounded by family & friends, laughter, music and food, as we say goodbye.

Bruce had no insurance and your donation will help to cover his funeral arrangements and services. Any donations made above and beyond the goal will go to further supporting his family and his legacy through his ministry.

His service will take place on Saturday October 1st beginning at 2pm at the St John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church and ending with the Repass at Peace Progressive Community Church at 2628 East Lake Ave in Tampa. All are welcome.

If you had the pleasure of meeting Booman at any part of his journey, you may understand why so many loved him.
His legacy is well known throughout the East Tampa neighborhood where he spent 56 years of life and was always proud to claim the College Hill projects as his home alongside Ponce De Leon, Central Park and Main Street, among others. His love and appreciation for community started and ended there.

Although he was a strong man physically, he was an even stronger man of faith and lived as a lifelong servant of Jesus. He loved his mother and many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles along with all of the lifelong friends he intentionally kept in touch with. He was a dedicated and supportive partner and loving husband of 23 years and an amazing grandfather and father figure to all of our kids.

A heart for giving back and helping others, Booman worked with the Abe Brown Prison Crusade Ministry for years and founded and organized Men and Women of Power, an advocacy organization that worked toward peace in his neighborhood. A strong believer in the power of community, Booman had a knack for bringing people together through his organizing, activism and campaign work, and worked with numerous politicians and community organizers throughout the Tampa Bay area.

Bruce was the life of the party and had a big heart, a big laugh, a big personality and was always unapologetically himself. He was a talented artist, fantastic cook, staunch protector of people through his security details and builder of all things as a skilled carpenter. And if you needed anything at all, you could just let Booman know as he would always figure out a way to get it, even if it “fell off a truck”. His compassion for helping others was unmatched, giving you food from his own refrigerator, clothes from his own closet and shoes off his own feet, while his ability to make others laugh and feel safe was remarkable.

Recently, he was described as an “Experience”. And that he was. It was a fun and loving experience to know him, and we are blessed to have had him in this world. Thank you in advance for your love and generosity.
