Ethiopia ranks within the top 10 illiterate countries in Africa, with a rate of 51.8%. Literacy is crucial for academic success and the development of cognitive, linguistic, and social-emotional skills. Children without access to literacy education are less likely to pursue higher education and obtain better-paying jobs in the future. This perpetuates generational illiteracy and impedes economic growth and social mobility in Ethiopia, and countries like it. However, through this book drive, we are aiming to promote literacy among the Ethiopian youth.
