*UPDATE!!!*
We have doubled the goal to €1,000 to purchase TWO water tanks instead of one!! You guys were so amazing that you surpassed our goal of €500 in less than a day. We are THRILLED. Let’s see if we can get to €1,000!! Asante sana!! ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you all so much!!!
Dear Friends,
We are thrilled to share the remarkable progress we have made at Kukua Practical Permaculture in Ikanga, Tanzania. Your support has transformed our project into a hub of sustainable agriculture, education, and community growth, significantly impacting the lives of 3,000 people.
Our Current Challenge: A New Water Tank
First, we extend our deepest gratitude for helping us finance our solar water pump. Thanks to you, we now have a reliable water source that is making a substantial difference in our daily farming operations.
However, alongside this success, we face a new challenge.
Our current 500-liter water tank is too small. Thanks to the efficiency of our solar water pump, we can pump up to 3,600 liters per hour, totaling approximately 43,200 liters per day—a fantastic result that far surpasses our expectations!
However, it means that water is constantly overflowing on sunny days and failing to store enough on cloudy days when the solar pump cannot operate. Without batteries to store electricity, our only solution for continuous water supply is to install a larger, 5,000-liter tank.
This would allow us to:
- Improve irrigation tenfold, ensuring consistent crop watering, even during cloudy weather.
- Reduce water waste by storing excess water from sunny days, maximizing its use.
- Continue generating jobs for up to 200 locals by allowing year-round work and farm expansion.
- Boost food production, enhancing food security for the community.
Looking Ahead: Exciting Future Projects
We are developing several new projects to further grow KPPA and support our community through employment, nutrition, and education. By supporting the purchase of a 5,000-liter tank, you’re also helping future initiatives!
1. Tilapia Fish Pond: Educating and Empowering Locals
We’ve started working on a tilapia fish pond to provide a sustainable protein source and serve as an educational tool for locals.
This project will:
- Teach aquaculture skills to local farmers, enabling them to diversify their income.
- Create jobs and increase local employment, benefiting many families.
- Serve as an educational model for sustainable fish farming, empowering the next generation.
2. Children’s Playground: Empowering Women and Strengthening Families
Another key project is constructing a safe playground for children, offering both play space and childcare.
With this playground, we aim to:
- Provide a safe space where children can play, socialize, and learn while their parents work.
- Enable mothers to work on the farm or pursue local jobs, knowing their children are in a safe environment.
- Support family well-being, allowing women to participate more fully in the economy, improving their families’ financial outlook.
How You Can Help:
Your support has been instrumental in getting us this far. Now, our priority is securing the new water tank, essential for maintaining efficient, sustainable operations. Once installed, we can further expand our community programs, ensuring KPPA remains a beacon of growth, education, and opportunity in Ikanga.
Thank you for being such an integral part of our journey. Together, we can build a brighter, more sustainable future for our community. If you’d like to learn more or get involved, please reach out! And don’t forget to share our story with those who might be inspired by our mission. :)
Warm regards,
Ottoman Lutambi
